Woodfrys Farm is a wild-ish campsite in the most scenic of settings. If you want to get back to nature in fantastic surroundings, then this campsite is for you.

Nestled in the North Dorset countryside in easy striking distance of lovely places to visit, you can decide whether  to go out or relax onsite watching the birdlife on the lake, paddling in the stream, or walking the meadow.

Situated in the Cranbourne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which is a International Dark Sky Reserve, with dark nights and starry skies. Torches are a must!

Camping in the Water Meadow

Enclosed in the valley bottom, the Water Meadow is surrounded by mature trees. The one acre lake sits close to the chalk stream,  and there's another smaller wildlife lake too so you are never more than 10 metres away from water.

Pitches are mown into the meadow and are generous in size (approx 10m by 10m). You won't be able to choose your exact spot in advance as we rotate pitches to protect the ground but you can guarantee your pitch will be next to some water, be it the lake or the stream.   Whilst you can't swim in the lake, you can fish, and if you need to get your feet wet then the Sturkel chalk stream is great for dipping your toes in and splashing about.

On arrival and departure day, you will be able drive down to the start of the Water Meadow where you can borrow a wheel barrow or trolley to help you to your pitch, just a short distance away. Do ask for help if you need it.

There is a lot of un-fenced water so care must be taken day and night and children supervised at all times.

Camping or campervanning on the Ridge

Pitches on the Ridge have a birds eye view of the Water Meadow and lake, often with fantastic aerial displays from the local bird life. You'll catch the last rays of the day up on the Ridge. Entrance to the Watermeadow is gated so you are safely tucked away from the water. There are two electric hookup optional pitches which suitable for campervans or tents.

Pitches are mown into the meadow (approx 10m by 10m) and like in the Water Meadow, you won't be able to choose your exact spot in advance as we rotate pitches to protect the ground.   If you have booked as a campervan, you'll be able to park on your pitch, but if camping, you'll be asked to use the car park which is no more than 20 metres away.

Facilities

Each pitch is supplied with

  • a picnic table

  • a basic fire pit made out of recycled car wheels, with logs available to purchase. £5 for a generous sized tub with kindling and lightings, all sustainably harvested on the farm.

New for 2021

Compost toilets and hot showers with a wild Woodfrys touch. Down in the Water Meadow there will be two compost toilets and handwashing basins.  This will be in the communual area where there's a also a giant communal fire pit and a great view of the lake.

Up behind the Ridge, we are developing 'The Shower Shack', two hot showers, wash basins and wash up area. Made out of locally sourced waney edge larch and corregated iron, the showers will be generously sized with ample room for getting changed comfortably, and whilst we expect them to be basic in nature, they will give a great outdoor shower experience. There will also be a compost toilet. As it is all in development we haven't got any pictures yet but will post them as soon as we do.

Recycling, composting and rubbish  facilities are available in designated areas, and we ask everyone to recycle and compost as much as you can.

We are a working farm, with rare breed chickens, pigs and cattle.  Fresh eggs available daily, with seasonal fruit and veg on occasion.

Enjoy a walk on the path around the lake, or crossing the various bridges over the stream, or walk from the farm gate on a number of very scenic walks. Please ask for maps to help you on your way.
