Woodfrys Farm is a wild-ish campsite in the most scenic of settings. If you want to get back to nature in fantastic surroundings, then this campsite is for you.

Nestled in the North Dorset countryside in easy striking distance of lovely places to visit, you can decide whether  to go out or relax onsite watching the birdlife on the lake, paddling in the stream, or walking the meadow.

Situated in the Cranbourne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which is a International Dark Sky Reserve, with dark nights and starry skies. Torches are a must!

Camping in the Water Meadow

Enclosed in the valley bottom, the Water Meadow is surrounded by mature trees. The one acre lake sits close to the chalk stream,  and there's another smaller wildlife lake too so you are never more than 10 metres away from water.

Pitches are mown into the meadow and are generous in size, with plenty of space between you and other pitches.  This year we are opening up more spots around the lake and at Meadows end. You won't be able to choose your exact spot in advance as we rotate pitches to protect the ground but you can guarantee your pitch will be next to some water, be it the lake or the stream.   Whilst you can't swim in the lake, you can fish, and if you need to get your feet wet then the Sturkel chalk stream is great for dipping your toes in and splashing about.

On arrival and departure day, you will be able drive down to the start of the Water Meadow where you can borrow a wheel barrow or trolley or if you are a bit further away we'll lend a motorised hand.

There is a lot of un-fenced water so care must be taken day and night and children supervised at all times.

Camping or campervanning on the Ridge

Pitches on the Ridge have a birds eye view of the Water Meadow and lake, often with fantastic aerial displays from the local bird life. You'll catch the last rays of the day up on the Ridge. There are two electric hookup optional pitches which suitable for campervans or tents. Each pitch has it's own water supply.

Pitches are mown into the meadow (approx 10m by 10m) and like in the Water Meadow, you won't be able to choose your exact spot in advance as we rotate pitches to protect the ground.   If you have booked as a campervan, you'll be able to park on your pitch, but if camping, you'll be asked to use the car park which is no more than 20 metres away.

The other pitch up on the Ridge is Liam and Hannah's Shepherd's Hut, The Withy Hut. This is a Sleeps 2 Shepherds Hut, but you can also add up to 3 more people to the pitch staying in a camper or tent so something to think about if you want a mix of camping and glamping!

Each pitch is supplied with

  • a picnic table

  • a fire pit with logs available to purchase. £5 for a generous sized tub with kindling and lightings, all sustainably harvested on the farm. Only logs provided by us can be burnt onsite. We recycle all the ash for fertilising the plants and trees.

  • Compost bin to collect your cooked and raw food waste

Also provided is washing up liquid and hand soap, and new for 2022 is a selection of Faith in Nature shampoo, conditioners and shower gels. These are all environmentally friendly and work best for our soakaways.

Toilets and showers

There are 3 compost toilets spread out in the Water Meadow so you never have very fair to walk. Up on the Ridge, there are two generous sized showers, and two compost toilets.

Wash up stations

There is a hot wash up on the Ridge, and two hot wash upsinks in the Watermeadow. There are various drinking water points around the site.

Recycling, composting and rubbish  facilities are available in designated areas, and we ask everyone to recycle and compost as much as you can. We'll give you a compost caddy on arrival. We supply eco washing up liquid, handsoap and bio-degradable dog poo bags.

We are a working farm, with rare breed chickens, pigs and cattle.  Fresh eggs available daily, with seasonal fruit and veg on occasion.

Enjoy a walk on the path around the lake, or crossing the various bridges over the stream, or walk from the farm gate on a number of very scenic walks. Please ask for maps to help you on your way.
