2021: The making of the Withy Hut

Updated: Nov 4, 2023

Scavenging for goodies....

In October 2021, we took part in Series 2 of 'My Unique B&B' made by Plimsoll Productions which was aired in 2022 – watch a clip here

Presented by Master craftsman Simon Parfett and his team they help people with a little land or a beautiful garden generate extra income by creating their own unique place to stay.

Before they came....

We worked to get the Shepherds Hut into a state ready for fitting out and built a floor so that the focus for the team could be the creation of a field kitchen, and the presentation of the hut. All the materials came off the farm which was amazing. We love re-using materials so it was great that we could put so much to good use. The corrugated roof which was originally a corn bin!

The mini makes

As well as making the big stuff, there were some mini-makes, like these willow baskets which Sophie modified for the hut to make 'wheelie' baskets for under bed storage.

Old oak planks were milled down to make the kitchen worktops, and old wheels got a new lease of life as light fittings.

A learning curve

It's the first time we've ever been filmed and it was a window on a whole new world. Everything had to be filmed 3 times to make sure all the shots were captured. This meant remembering what you did, when you did it and in the right order - a total brain challenge!

Add into that building a massive structure and fitting out a shepherds hut, it was a monumental effort to fit it into just two days!

Thanks are due

We had an amazing time and would like to say a special thank you to Simon, Ian, Sophie & Verity and the fantastic behind-the-scenes crew for making it such a laugh and helping us to create a fantastic set up for the Withy Hut. We definitely couldn't have done it without you!

A nod too to my Mum and Dad too who helped prop us up with brownies, moral support and childcare during the filming!
